A pallet shuttle is a standalone, automated, high density pallet storage system that employs self-propelled shuttle carriages to move pallets backward or forward in a racking channel. Shuttles are motor driven and travel along rails within a storage channel.
When storing products, a forklift puts pallets in the foremost slot in a channel and the carriage carries the pallet backward to the furthest open slot in the rack until the channel is filled completely. When pulling pallets, individual units are retrieved from their location and moved to the rack face to be picked by a lift truck.
Pallet shuttle systems are perfect for high volume storage applications and allow operators to seamlessly load and collect pallets using a vehicle mounted controller or integration with a warehouse management system.
Maximize Warehouse Storage Density
These types of deep lane AS/RS solutions benefit warehouse operators significantly by improving storage density within a facility. A smaller number of forklift lanes are necessary, meaning that most of that corridor space can be converted to storage. Cart mounted sensors allow pallet shuttles to position pallets in very close proximity, making the most of storage capacity within each channel. Vertical storage capacity is also enhanced because shuttles require very little clearance between levels.
Improve Warehouse Efficiency and Safety
Added storage capacity is just one of the benefits of shuttle systems. Operational efficiency skyrockets because lift trucks no longer have to drive to individual aisles--every pallet is placed or unloaded from a single rack face. This greatly reduces typical loading and unloading times. Consequently, it can minimize the number of lift trucks that are needed, and more to the point, greatly reduce labor costs because not as many workers are necessary.
By diminishing forklift travel, you also reduce your exposure to accidents. Fewer lift truck hours mean a reduction in damaged lift trucks and racks, a decrease in product loss and fewer injuries or safety mishaps.
Raymond Radioshuttle
Raymond’s Radioshuttle system is one of the most advanced pallet shuttle options on the market today. As the originator of pallet shuttle solutions almost 30 years ago, Radioshuttle offers industry leading shuttle speeds and a battery life of 8-14 hours, depending on system design. Radioshuttle equipment is also extraordinarily reliable and durable—some units installed nearly 30 years ago are still in operation today!
Radioshuttle units accommodate loads of up to 3,900 pounds. And for cold storage or harsh operating conditions, Radioshuttle is the ideal choice. Even in temperatures from -22 to +104 degrees, the shuttles continue to function dependably.
